Drew Brees Predicts a Saints Super Bowl in Commercials Produced Last Summer for the National Football Post to Benefit the Brees Dream Foundation
Janurary 29, 2010, San Diego: Super Bowl-bound quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees, offers his premonitions in two videos filmed in San Diego, CA, in July of 2009 for the National Football Post. The fun commercials spotlight Breesʼ other talents off the field - that of a soothsayer sushi chef and a pain-giving dentist.

These comedic, web-based spots were filmed to promote the fantasy football site NFPost.com, where partial game proceeds benefit the Brees Dream Foundation, advancing research in the fight against cancer and providing care, education and opportunities for children in need.
Most notable in both spots are Breesʼ direct predictions to a first Super Bowl for the Saints. As sushi chef, he offers a tasty new dish - the “Saints Going To The Super Bowl” Roll. He states, “Sounds kind of interesting at first, but once you taste it, youʼll be a believer.” Brees now has many believers.
In the dentist commercial, he makes a follow-up appointment with his patient - “Come back in February, after the Super Bowl.” Veteran improv actors Chris Lusti and Ron Christopher Jones are also featured, both San Diego natives with long stage and screen portfolios.
“I donʼt think Drew will be preparing fish or fixing teeth any time soon, but he definitely has acting skills,” says David Romero, producer at Eddie Grace CMG, the Southern California agency specializing in creative media for TV and web, who produced the spots.
“Most of what we did that day was improv, which takes comedic timing and experience. Especially the sushi chef scene...we used a single take, no cuts, no edits...and he nailed it. Heʼs a natural. Iʼd say heʼs ready for SNL.”
Also of note, Breesʼ character offers his picks for players of the year, which not only included Saints teammates Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey, but ex-teammate LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers.
Filmed at actual businesses in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego County, the “Saints Going To The Super Bowl” Roll is sure to be a hit at Watami Sushi, where the sushi skit was filmed, and possibly restaurants nationwide. Collaborating on the motion graphics elements was Passage Productions, a national leader in 3D video technology and production.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
QUESTION THE EXPERTS: 5 Qs About The 3D Video Push and Corporate Marketing
January 25, 2010 San Diego, California: Imagine using the same 3D video techniques used in the blockbuster movie Avatar for your next marketing campaign at a fraction of the cost. Through a proprietary technique, San Diego video production company Passage Productions is offering businesses nationwide a unique approach to brand marketing.
As 3D video presentations continue to permeate every faction of sports and entertainment, the business sector is clamoring for innovative ways to adopt the growing technology, a trend Passage is happy to accommodate. Having recently produced the high profile CONNECT.org Most Innovative New Product Awards in 3D for a live audience of over 800 executives, entrepreneurs and academics, Passage has established itself as the region’s leader in motion graphics technology and production.
Through 5 QUESTIONS, we learn more about this marketing approach and it’s growing possibilities in the corporate world.
1. What’s the current climate for 3D technology adoption? It’s been around for a while…why the sudden push?
Passage: 3D has been around since the early 1900s, but advancements in digital film making have finally enabled film makers to take advantage of the 3rd dimension in a much easier and cost effective way. Now, with all the ways to distribute and view 3D content, it makes sense to consider going beyond the traditional video project to create enthralling and immersive experiences in 3D.
2. What kind of business applications have you seen enhanced through 3D technology? Do you see other applications that might be considered?
Passage: As 3D moves out of the exclusive arena of motion picture production and becomes accessible to television, corporate and internet video, people are starting to reexamine the benefits and applications for 3D in their media portfolio. A 3D tour can give new perspective to a factory floor or a real estate offering. 3D interviews can put people face-to-face with their business representative or other satisfied customers. 3D training can bring a whole new depth of understanding to the viewer and boosts their cognitive understanding.
3. What kind of impact are you seeing in the corporate world through 3D technology?
Passage: Companies who want to add a distinctive “WOW Factor” to their next company event have incorporated 3D presentations into their events. 3D video conferencing is something many progressive companies are starting to employ.
Outside of the corporate world, 3D documentary projects, 3D film projects and 3D music videos are allowing for deeper and more visceral connections to the audience. And we’ve only scratched the surface of this new frontier.
4. What makes your system more affordable…how is it different?
Passage: Our goal at Passage was to create a 3D camera system that was versatile, high-quality, and that could be integrated into our existing pipeline. Right now, many companies are scrambling to invest in new, untested technologies and software as they try to begin the 3D production process.
Passage Productions has a 3-year head start on the competition, and we have been able to successfully customize our current software catalog for 3D production. We can set up, shoot, edit, and deliver 3D experiences across a wide range of viewing options at nearly the same cost of a traditional 2D production.
5. What do you see on the horizon for the technology?
Passage: This year, movies like Avatar and the unanimous support of television manufacturers at CES 2010 tell us that 3D is the new frontier. YouTube has created a new standard for viewing HD 3D content via the internet, and the 3D BluRay standard was just announced. Even the video game industry will be making the transition to 3D. With the whole industry embracing 3D, it won’t be long before 3D content will be the standard, and both consumers and producers won’t settle for anything less.

- Last year’s Super Bowl
- This year’s upcoming Michael Jackson Grammy tribute
